Jim M. Aronitz, MBA, CFA, P.Eng.
Jim has thirty years of investment management and financial analysis experience. He has been the President of Hemisphere Capital Management since founding the company in 1993. He is a former equity portfolio manager with the Investment Corporation of Saskatchewan and a former mutual fund manager with Metropolitan Trust. Jim earned a BSc (Electrical Engineering) and an MBA from the University of Alberta. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Jim is a current member of the CFA Institute, a former director of the Canadian Council of Financial Analysts, and a past President of CFA Society Saskatchewan. Jim is a former director of a large venture capital fund and several publicly listed companies. He is also a past President of the Rotary Club of Calgary North.
Rick M. Riffel, CFA
Rick has thirty years of investment management and financial analysis experience. He is a former portfolio manager and regional director with TD Private Investment Counsel. Rick was also formerly an investment manager and secretary/treasurer with Crown Life Investment Management Inc. Rick earned a BBA (Accounting & Finance) from the University of Regina. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is a founding board member of the Frontier Centre for Public Policy, a Winnipeg based public policy think-tank. Rick is also a board member of Direct-MS, a non-profit organization that promotes non-drug therapies for those affected by Multiple Sclerosis. Furthermore, he is a past executive member of CFA Society Saskatchewan and a current member of the CFA Institute.
Thomas H. Loucks, CFA
Tom has been managing investment portfolios for over forty-five years. He was the President of Loucks, Lee & Associates Ltd., a business he founded in 1974, until it merged with Hemisphere Capital Management in 2002. He was previously a Senior Investment Officer with The Royal Trust Company in Toronto where he managed five pension funds and a university endowment portfolio. Tom graduated from Concordia University with a BA (Economics) and is a current member of the CFA Institute. He is a founding member and Past President of CFA Society Calgary. Tom is also a director of The Rotary Club of Downtown Calgary.
Skyelar joined Hemisphere Capital Management in 2015. She previously spent several years in management and project consultancy. She holds a BA (Commerce, Organizations and Entrepreneurship) from Brown University where she played on the NCAA Division I women’s ice hockey team. Skyelar plays an integral role in the performance analysis and reporting procedures at Hemisphere. She led the firm’s GIPS verification process in which historical composite returns were verified for the past 25 years. She has also taken on an active role in trading, allocations and compliance. Skyelar is a member of the Calgary chapter of Women in Capital Markets. This organization supports women in finance through networking, mentoring, and education. Skyelar is currently working on her CIM designation.
